Bhubaneswar, May 23: The Commissionerate Police have busted an interstate bike theft racket and arrested three members of the gang involved in stealing and selling motorcycles with forged documents. Police have also seized more than 15 stolen bikes from their possession.

According to sources, the accused used to roam around the city during daytime and target parked motorcycles at convenient locations. The gang allegedly stole several bikes from the capital city, including motorcycles belonging to police personnel.

After stealing the vehicles, the accused reportedly changed the number plates using registration details from other states. They also tampered with engine numbers through re-punching and prepared fake RC books and smart cards before selling the bikes to unsuspecting buyers.

Following multiple complaints lodged at different police stations, the Commissionerate Police launched an investigation and tracked down the gang. Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members linked to the racket and ascertain the involvement of interstate networks.
