Bhubaneswar, Aug. 7: A rape accused who allegedly escaped from police custody in Bhubaneswar has been arrested from Bengaluru, Commissionerate Police said on Friday.
The accused, identified as Rudra Prasad Sutar, was apprehended by a special team of the Commissionerate Police in the Karnataka capital and produced before a local court. He was subsequently brought back to Bhubaneswar by train on Friday morning.
Sutar had earlier been arrested by the Mahila Police in Bhadrak on charges of allegedly raping a woman following a complaint filed by the survivor.
According to police, the accused escaped from custody while having breakfast at a canteen after his arrest. Following the incident, a case was registered at the Capital Police Station, and a search operation was launched to trace him.
The accused will be produced before the court later in the day, the Commissionerate Police said.
