Bhubaneswar Police Arrest Three in Rs 8.5 Lakh Cyber Pension Scam

Bhubaneswar, June 28: Bhubaneswar-Commissionerate Police have arrested three Assam residents for allegedly cheating a 64-year-old retired bank employee of Rs 8.5 lakh through a fake bank link in a cyber fraud case.

The accused—Harun Rashid (29), Junaidur Islam (22), and Ejajul Hoque (23)—were arrested by the Cyber Crime and Economic Offence (CC & EO) Police Station following a complaint by Bulu Dash, a retired bank employee from Bhubaneswar.

Police said the fraudsters contacted Dash, offering help to update his Life Certificate for pension disbursal. They sent him a fake UCO Bank link, which he clicked, unknowingly sharing his details. Soon after, Rs 8.5 lakh was fraudulently withdrawn from his account through unauthorised online transactions.

The investigation revealed an interstate cyber fraud network using mule bank accounts and SIM cards to route stolen money. Police said the accused were linked to a suspected Jamtara-based cybercrime kingpin, Kalim Ansari, who remains absconding.

Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused and dismantle the wider cyber fraud syndicate.
