Bhubaneswar, May 11: Fresh allegations have surfaced in the death case of Soumya, with his uncle accusing a senior IPS officer of prolonged harassment and misuse of power. Soumya’s uncle, Lambodar Das of Noida, alleged that a state police ADG had been forcing Soumya to perform personal duties, including massaging his legs for hours every day over the past two years.
In a video statement, Lambodar claimed Soumya had visited his Noida residence around 15 days ago and spoke about the mental stress he was undergoing due to workplace harassment. He alleged that the ADG frequently abused Soumya in obscene language and also made him arrange a gym for one of his contractor friends without paying him for the work.
According to the family, Soumya had recently left the ADG’s personal service and joined the GRP. However, the officer allegedly retaliated by influencing railway authorities to stop Soumya’s salary. Lambodar claimed the Railway SP and RI were aware of the issue but could not help as Soumya was a lower-rank employee. He further alleged that the salary stoppage had pushed Soumya into severe mental distress.
The family has also questioned the police response during the May 7 incident in which Soumya lost his life. Lambodar termed the incident “inhuman” and alleged that the PCR personnel failed to control the mob despite the situation escalating. He accused the police of negligence and demanded a high-level probe into the entire incident, along with strict action against the senior IPS officer.
