Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: In an effort to combat pick pocketing during this year’s Durga Puja festivities, the Nayapalli Durga Puja Committee has decided to use a drone for monitoring the pandal crowds during Dusshera. The drone has been rented from a private agency and will primarily operate in the evenings starting from Sasthi.
“Despite our ongoing efforts to enhance security each year, we typically report the theft of seven to eight gold chains daily during Durga Puja. This year, we’re implementing additional surveillance with the drone,” stated committee member Chitrasen Behera.
To strengthen safety and security measures, the committee has installed at least 40 CCTV cameras and four LED screens around the puja mandap. Additionally, there will be a presence of police officers in civil dress, 200 volunteers, and 100 transgender individuals to help deter theft.
Frequent announcements will be made to remind visitors to stay vigilant and safeguard their valuables.
The Nayapalli pandal attracts over 50,000 visitors from Saptami onwards, with many falling victim to pickpockets during peak hours.
Committee members have also made special arrangements for senior citizens and differently-abled individuals, providing two-wheel chairs for easier access. Furthermore, prasad will be distributed to visitors on Saptami, Astami, Nabami, Dasami, and during the Bhasani Mahotsav.
