Paradip, Sept 19: A beach clean-up drive was organised at Paradip beach as part of an international effort to make oceans and coastal areas free from plastic and other forms of pollution.
Beach Clean-Up Day is observed across more than 100 countries during the third week of September every year, with the objective of raising awareness about marine pollution and encouraging people to protect coastal ecosystems.
The rapid rise in plastic consumption across the world has severely affected both water bodies and soil. Oceans and beaches are among the worst affected by plastic waste and other pollutants. The accumulation of plastic waste is also posing a serious threat to marine biodiversity and aquatic life.
Keeping these concerns in mind, a cleanliness drive was undertaken at Paradip beach to remove plastic and other waste from the coastal area.
Personnel from the Coast Guard, Paradip Municipality, students from various schools, NCC cadets of Paradip College, officials from the district administration, and members of several voluntary organisations participated in the clean-up campaign.
The initiative aimed not only to clean the beach but also to create greater public awareness about responsible waste disposal, reducing plastic use and protecting the marine environment.
