Baramati, May 13: Months after the tragic Baramati plane accident that claimed the life of then Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, a training aircraft from Redbird Aviation Academy crash-landed near a village close to Baramati Airport on Wednesday morning following a technical glitch.

Baramati police stated that the incident occurred shortly after the aircraft took off from the airport. Sandeep Singh Gill, Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, said the aircraft made a crash landing at 8:50 am near Gojubavi village, adjacent to the airport.

“According to preliminary eyewitness reports, the aircraft was flying at a relatively low altitude when it developed a technical malfunction. During the emergency landing, one side of the aircraft reportedly struck a light pole before hitting the ground,” Gill said.

The aircraft was occupied only by a trainee pilot at the time. Fortunately, the pilot did not sustain any serious injuries. Police rushed to the scene promptly, and necessary inquiries are underway.

Shivaji Taware, Director of Baramati Airport, confirmed the crash, saying, “A trainee aircraft of Redbird Aviation Academy crash-landed in a field near the airport. The cause is yet to be determined, and no casualties have been reported.”

The incident comes after the January 28 crash of a Learjet 45 (registration VT-SSK) operated by VSR Ventures Pvt Ltd, which was flying from Mumbai to Baramati and killed Ajit Pawar along with four others. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation investigated that crash, submitting its preliminary report on February 28. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra CID continues its inquiry into the case, following standard procedures for accidental deaths.
