Mumbai, August 19: One of Bollywood’s most eagerly awaited releases, Thaama, is already creating a buzz ahead of its release. The horror-comedy, which forms part of a larger cinematic universe, stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles. The recently released first-look poster has sparked excitement among fans and set social media abuzz with speculation and praise.
The poster offers a glimpse into the film's intriguing cast, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana as Alok, a historical researcher, introduced with the caption, “Insaniyat ki aakhri ummeed” (The last hope of humanity). Rashmika Mandanna’s character, Tadka, is described as “Roshni ki ek hi pehli kiran” (The first ray of light), hinting at her pivotal role in the narrative.
Veteran actor Paresh Rawal appears as Ram Bajaj Goyal, a character that blends humor and melancholy. Meanwhile, Nawazuddin Siddiqui makes a striking comeback to the big screen as the menacing dark ruler, Yakshashan.
Set against the historical backdrop of Vijayanagar in Delhi, Thaama tells a layered story that weaves between the past and present. The film follows Ayushmann’s character navigating an emotional journey rooted in unrequited love, with elements of mystery and supernatural suspense.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film is slated for a Diwali 2025 release. Notably, it is expected to face box office competition from another film of the same name – Thaama, directed by Anurag Basu and starring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela.
Adding to the excitement, the makers have confirmed that the film’s official teaser will be released today, offering audiences their first glimpse into the storyline and visual tone of the film.
Meanwhile, Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming projects include Pati, Patni Aur Woh 2 and an untitled film under the direction of Sooraj Barjatya. Rashmika Mandanna is also set to appear in two upcoming films – The Girlfriend and Cocktail 2.
