Kanpur, November 5: Ayodhya will illuminate the banks of the River Saryu with 33 lakh earthen lamps during its tenth Deepotsav, a spiritually and astrologically significant occasion. Jagadguru Swami Satishacharya Ji Maharaj, head of Premeshwar Dham in Kanpur, said the celebrations, under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, would carry a special message of devotion, tradition, and spiritual awakening.
Highlighting the significance of the occasion, the Jagadguru said, "When Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya in the Treta Yuga, the city was illuminated with lamps. Today, through the tenth Deepotsav, the efforts of Yogi Ji have transformed Ayodhya into a beacon of light for the entire world. However, the true success of this celebration will be achieved when the light of Lord Ram's ideals illuminates every Indian heart."
Explaining the religious significance of the number 33 crore, or 33 koti, the Jagadguru said that Sanatan tradition describes 33 categories of deities, comprising 12 Adityas, 8 Vasus, 11 Rudras and 2 Ashwini Kumaras. The 12 Adityas represent different manifestations of the Sun.
He observed that celebrating Diwali on a Sunday, traditionally associated with the Sun, in the city of Ayodhya, the birthplace of the Suryavanshi Lord Ram, while lighting 33 lakh lamps symbolising the 33 koti deities, carries a profound spiritual message.

"In the city of Suryavanshi Lord Ram, a Diwali falling on Sunday, the day of the Sun, and the lighting of 33 lakh lamps representing 33 koti deities is not merely a coincidence but a divine indication," he said.
Drawing a parallel with the victory of Lord Ram over the ten-headed Ravana, the Jagadguru added, "Lord Ram defeated the ten-headed Ravana, symbolising the triumph of righteousness over evil. The lamp first lit in Ayodhya ten years ago has now spread its radiance in all ten directions."
Continuing the Maharishi tradition, Jagadguru Swami Satishacharya Ji Maharaj appealed to devotees in India and across the world to participate spiritually in the historic celebration. He urged everyone to light at least one earthen lamp and meditate on Lord Ram for one minute during the Deepotsav lamp-lighting ceremony in Ayodhya.
"The outer lamp becomes truly meaningful only when the inner lamp of meditation is also illuminated," he said, emphasising the importance of inner transformation alongside external celebrations.
Jagadguru Swami Satishacharya Ji Maharaj heads Premeshwar Dham in Kalyanpur, Kanpur. He was conferred the title of Jagadguru by the Nirvani, Nirmohi and Digambar Akharas and continues to uphold and propagate the spiritual legacy of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi tradition.
