Guwahati, July 22: The flood situation in Assam worsened on Wednesday as incessant rainfall continued to lash several districts, claiming 21 more lives and affecting nearly 5.65 lakh people, officials said.
The latest fatalities have taken the death toll from this year's floods to 31.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited several flood-hit areas in Upper Assam, interacted with affected residents, and reviewed the relief measures.
He also announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the next of kin of each person who lost their lives in the floods.
