Mumbai, May 12: Actor Anushka Sharma penned an emotional tribute to her husband, cricket legend Virat Kohli, following his announcement of retirement from Test cricket earlier on Monday.
In a heartfelt social media post, Anushka reflected on Kohli’s personal journey, highlighting the unseen struggles and silent sacrifices behind his celebrated career.
“They’ll talk about the records and the milestones—but I’ll remember the tears you never showed, the battles no one saw, and the unwavering love you gave this format of the game,” she wrote. “I know how much all this took from you. After every Test series, you came back a little wiser, a little humbler—and watching you evolve through it all has been a privilege.”
Anushka admitted that, like many fans around the world, she had always envisioned Kohli ending his international career in the whites of Test cricket. “Somehow, I always imagined you’d retire from international cricket in whites,” she said. “But you’ve always followed your heart—and my love, you’ve earned every bit of this goodbye.”
She also shared a cherished photo from India’s historic 2018 Test series win in Australia, where Kohli led the team to a 2–1 victory—the country's first-ever Test series triumph on Australian soil.
Kohli, 36, retires from the longest format of the game with an impressive record: 123 Test matches, 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. His highest score in Tests remains an unbeaten 254. He stands as India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in Test cricket, behind legends Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar. Kohli made his Test debut in June 2011 against the West Indies.
