Another arrest in Odisha SI recruitment scam

Bhubaneswar, Oct 5: The Cyber Wing of the State Crime Branch has arrested another individual in connection with the Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam.

The accused, identified as Arabinda Das (43), hails from Nabara village under Singala Police Station in Balasore district.

According to an official press release, Das was arrested under CID, CB P.S. Case No. 07, registered on October 1, 2025. He faces multiple charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)—including 319(2), 318(4), 338, 336(3), 340(2), 111, 61(2), and 3(5)—as well as Sections 11(1) and 12(1) of the Odisha Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. The case is also linked to Golanthara PS Case No. 447, registered on September 30, 2025.

Das was apprehended following detailed interrogation, during which several incriminating materials were reportedly seized from his possession. He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (Rural), Berhampur. Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing.

The recruitment scam came to light on September 30, when Berhampur Police arrested 117 individuals allegedly involved in fraudulent activities related to the SI recruitment process. The Crime Branch continues its search for the key masterminds behind the operation, notably Shankar Prusty and Muna Mohanty.

The scam was uncovered after police intercepted three luxury buses near the Andhra-Odisha border. These buses were transporting SI exam candidates and middlemen to Vijayanagaram, Andhra Pradesh, for unauthorized coaching sessions.

In light of the revelations, the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB) has postponed the written examination for Sub-Inspector posts, which was originally scheduled for October 5 and 6.
