Anganwadi worker dismissed over multiple birth dates in Odisha’s Kaptipada block

Baripada, Sept 4: An Anganwadi worker has been dismissed from service after it was found that she had used multiple dates of birth in official documents to secure the job. The action was taken by the District Social Welfare Department, following an internal investigation.

The accused, Sumi Singh Samburai, was appointed in 2022 as an Anganwadi worker at the Debanabahali-2 centre under Kaptipada Block. However, a formal complaint was lodged, raising questions about discrepancies in her date of birth across several documents.

Upon verification, it was revealed that Sumi had submitted 1995 as her birth year in Anganwadi records, 1999 in her school certificate, and 2000 in her high school documents.

Following the probe, the district administration terminated her employment, citing manipulation of official records. A letter has been issued by the District Social Welfare Officer to the CDPO of Kaptipada, ordering her immediate dismissal and instructing officials to initiate fresh recruitment for the now-vacant position.

Authorities have confirmed that the case was a clear violation of recruitment norms and stressed the importance of document verification in public appointments.
