Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat wins 57kg Asian Games gold
Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat captured gold in the men's freestyle 57kg division at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. He achieved this milestone on Saturday by defeating North Korean opponent Chong Song Han in a highly competitive bout. This victory brings India its second wrestling gold of the tournament, following Sujeet Kalkal's earlier success on Friday. Indian wrestling has consistently dominated continental competitions, and this latest triumph further cements the nation's strong legacy in the sport.
Defense characterized the opening minutes of the final match. Sehrawat successfully blocked repeated attacks aimed at his left leg, keeping the score tied at zero initially. Officials eventually issued a passivity warning against him, costing him one point. He quickly recovered by executing a sudden takedown. Before the first break, he scored another excellent takedown to establish a 4-1 advantage.
Extending his lead to 6-1 early in the final round, Sehrawat seemed in total control. His North Korean opponent, however, launched a fierce counterattack despite showing signs of a knee injury. Han successfully executed a takedown followed by a roll, grabbing six rapid points to flip the score to 7-6 in his favor.
Facing a potential defeat, the Indian athlete executed a critical four-point sequence. He earned two points for a perfectly timed takedown and added two more with a roll, shifting the momentum to lead 10-7. He secured one final point when Han's official challenge failed, locking in the ultimate victory.
