Against all odds: 18-inch-tall student clears HSC exam

Dhenkanal, May 4: The results of the Class 10 HSC examination were announced this year, bringing joy to many successful candidates, including Sunita Naik, a differently-abled student who has drawn widespread attention for her remarkable determination.

Sunita, known for her exceptionally short height of 18 inches, passed the examination securing 309 marks and a ‘C’ grade. She was a student of Mahulpal Nigamananda High School and appeared for the matriculation exam at Panchayatraj High School in Kanpura village.

A resident of Kata Sahi in Saruali village under Kamakhyanagar block, Sunita overcame significant challenges to complete her examination. Due to her physical condition, her mother assisted her in reaching the examination centre, while her younger brother helped write her answers based on her instructions.

Her success has brought happiness to her family and the local community. However, despite her desire to pursue higher education, financial constraints remain a major concern. The family has appealed for support from the government or well-wishers to help her continue her studies.

Sunita lost her father, Bishnu Naik, around a decade ago. Since then, her mother Sanju has been working tirelessly to support and raise her. The family remains hopeful that with assistance, Sunita will be able to continue her education and build a better future.
