Bhubaneswar, September 28: As many 36 posts of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) are lying vacant in the State, the Odisha Assembly was informed on Monday.

Of the total 248 sanctioned posts of IAS, there are 212 are in position, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said in a written reply in the State Assembly.

He further informed the House that out of the 212 serving officers, 25 officers are now on central deputation.

“Timely measures are being taken to fill up the vacancy through direct recruitment and promotion,” said the Chief Minister.

As on March, 1,300 posts of IAS and 505 posts of IPS were lying vacant in the country.

In March this year, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh in a written reply in the Lok Sabha informed that as many as 1,300 posts of the IAS and 505 belonging to the Indian Police Service (IPS) are lying vacant in the country.

Of the total of 6,877 sanctioned posts of the IAS, there are 5,577 officers in position the country. There are 4,594 IPS officers in position, as against their sanctioned strength of 5,099, Singh informed the lower house in March.
