355 fights for Bhagyashree Memorial chess titles

Bhubaneswar: Altogether 355 players from across 21 districts of the State are taking part in the four-day long Bhagyashree Memorial S R All Odisha Open FIDE Rating Chess Championships, which inaugurated at Amrapali Resort, Phulnakhara on Saturday.

Total 133 international rated, 56 women, one each, visually challenged, differently abled, deaf and six players above 60 years will play the eight rounds championship. On the inaugural occasion two sports journalists Banudhar Dash and Ajay Dash were felicitated by the Olympian Anuradha Biswal.  

The championship featured a total cash award of Rs two lakhs one hundred, 89 trophies and 54 medals. The champion, runners up and third place finishers will receive cash awards of Rs 30,000, Rs20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively. Top 15 players and U-7, U-8, U-9, U-11, U-13and U-15 will also get the cash awards. 

SR Chess Centre President Subhasis Patnaik, Secretary Satya Ranjan Patnaik, Duradarshi Editor Durga Samantray and Cuttack District Chess association mentor Choudhury Pradyumna Mishra were present as the guests.
