Raipur, May 8: A high-intensity IED explosion rocked the Chhattisgarh–Telangana border on Wednesday, claiming the lives of three Telangana police personnel and leaving another critically injured. The blast, believed to be triggered by Maoists using a landmine, occurred on the forest route between Peruru and Wazed in Telangana’s Mulugu district.
Following the explosion, an intense exchange of fire broke out between security forces and Maoist insurgents. The encounter, which is still underway, is part of a large-scale anti-Maoist combing operation codenamed “Operation Kagaar.”
In a significant breakthrough during the ongoing operation, security forces have confirmed the killing of at least 26 Maoists in a fierce gun battle near the Karrigutta hills, close to the inter-state border. The number of casualties may rise as search operations continue in the dense forest terrain.
Authorities have deployed additional reinforcements, and top police and paramilitary officials are closely monitoring the situation on the ground. The injured personnel have been airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
This development marks one of the deadliest encounters in recent months in the Maoist-affected regions of central India.
