HANOI, Jul 12: The bodies of the 15 Indian tourists who died in a speedboat accident near Vietnam's Phu Quoc Island are being transported to Ho Chi Minh City before being flown to India, the Indian Embassy said.
The embassy confirmed that 16 of the 17 rescued tourists have been discharged and are returning to India, while one survivor remains in critical condition at a hospital in Phu Quoc.
The accident occurred on Saturday when a speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists and four local crew members capsized near Hon May Rut Ngoai island. All other passengers were rescued.
The victims included 10 people from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh, and two from Kerala. Indian officials are coordinating with Vietnamese authorities to complete formalities and ensure the early return of the victims' remains.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has ordered an investigation into the cause of the accident and directed authorities to hold those responsible accountable.
