Yudh Abhyas 2025: Indian Army contingent arrives in Alaska for joint military exercise with USA

Alaska (USA), Sept 2: An Indian Army contingent arrived at Fort Wainwright in USA’s Alaska to take part in the 21st edition of the India-US Joint Military Exercise, ‘Yudh Abhyas 2025’.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the development on Tuesday.

According to a post by the MEA on ‘X’, the joint exercise is set to take place from September 1 to September 14 and will see the Indian contingent collaborate with US troops in areas such as heliborne operations, mountain warfare, UAS, counter-UAS, and joint tactical drills.

The MEA shared a photo featuring a ceremonial gathering of Indian troops in front of a large C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.

A release from the Ministry of Defence stated that the Indian contingent includes personnel from a battalion of the Madras Regiment, who will be training alongside soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment—also known as the "Bobcats"—of the Arctic Wolves Brigade Combat Team, part of the US 11th Airborne Division.

The release stated that, over the course of two weeks, the troops will practice various tactical drills, including heliborne operations, the use of surveillance resources and unmanned aerial systems, rockcraft, mountain warfare, casualty evacuation, combat medical aid, and the integrated deployment of Artillery, Aviation, and Electronic Warfare systems.

Additionally, subject-matter experts from both armies will lead working groups on key areas such as UAS and counter-UAS operations, information warfare, communications, and logistics.

The Ministry also noted that the exercise will conclude with jointly planned and executed tactical maneuvers, including live-fire drills and high-altitude warfare scenarios, aimed at enhancing capabilities for United Nations peacekeeping operations and boosting readiness for multi-domain challenges.
