Youth detained for attempting to enter Puri Jagannath Temple in slippers

Puri, Sept 10: A youth was detained by the police on Wednesday morning after attempting to enter the Jagannath Temple in Puri while wearing slippers, an act that violates the temple’s dress code.

The incident took place just as the temple gates were about to open in the early hours of the day. Security personnel and Jagannath Temple Police intervened when they noticed the youth, and after a brief altercation, he was handed over to the Singhadwar police for questioning.

The detained individual, identified as Lalu Prasad Sahu from Dhenkanal, is currently being held at the Singhadwar police station. Authorities are investigating the matter and questioning him to understand why he attempted to breach the temple’s strict dress code by entering in slippers.

The Jagannath Temple, as part of its long-standing tradition, has a strict policy prohibiting footwear inside the temple premises to maintain reverence and sanctity.
