New Delhi, November 14: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal has praised the party's success in the Tarn Taran by-elections, emphasizing that the people of Punjab favor the "politics of work." AAP's candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu, a former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) member and three-time MLA, won the seat by a significant margin of 12,091 votes.

In a post on social media platform X, Kejriwal congratulated Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for his leadership and extended his congratulations to the public and party workers. He wrote, “This historic victory in the Tarn Taran bye-election clearly demonstrates that the people of Punjab prefer politics of work and the honest leadership of Bhagwant Mann Ji. The people of Punjab have once again placed their trust in AAP. This win is a victory for the people and every dedicated worker. Heartiest congratulations to the people of Punjab and all party workers."

In the contest, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate and Azad Group leader Sukhwinder Kaur secured 30,558 votes, finishing second to Sandhu, who received 42,649 votes. Congress candidate Karanbir Singh lost by a margin of 27,571 votes, while BJP's Harjit Singh Sandhu garnered just 6,239 votes. A total of 15 candidates contested the bypolls.

The Tarn Taran seat had become vacant after the passing of the sitting AAP MLA, Kashmir Singh Sohal, in June. The by-elections were held across eight seats in six states and one Union Territory.

In other bypoll results, BJP's Devyani Rana triumphed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nagrota seat with a margin of 24,647 votes, while in Mizoram, R Lalthangliana of the Mizo National Front won the Dampa seat by a narrow 562 votes. In Rajasthan’s Anta constituency, Congress candidate Pramod Jain secured a victory over the BJP’s Morpal Suman by 15,612 votes.
