Bhubaneswar, Nov. 8: In a bid to familiarize students of management sciences with the needs of the corporate world and its expectations from young graduates, a one-day workshop was organized by Institute of Business and Computer Studies (IBCS), faculty of management sciences of the SOA Deemed to be University here on Tuesday.

The event, titled ‘Bridging Campus to Corporate: What Employers Expect from Young Management Students’, was specially designed and planned for students of  MBA program, the objective being to make them aware of the needs and expectations of the organizations operating in a dynamic business environment. 

Dr. Manash Ranjan Mandhata, Vice-President (Corporate HR), Maithan Ispat Ltd., who was the guest speaker for the event, shared real-life examples, industry perspectives and clear expectations that provided the young audience a much needed direction. He gave practical insights on skills, attitude, professionalism, values, workplace culture and corporate readiness. Some of his ‘mantras’ for success were to dream big, take initiative, learn new things, make the right career choices, have the right frame of mind, learn the art of expression, reinvent and stay relevant. He concluded his deliberation with a quote ‘in life you don’t get what you deserve, but you get what you negotiate’.

In his welcome address, Prof. Ayasa Kanta Mohanty, Dean, IBCS, highlighted the realities of the professional world. He drew parallels between expectations from the industry and the classroom teaching. He emphasized upon the key areas for becoming successful in the corporate world highlighting adaptability, teamwork, problem solving and decision making skills, critical thinking abilities, being responsible and accountable, being disciplined and having a positive attitude towards life and work.

Prof. Manoranjan Dash, Associate Dean, underscored three important tenets of personality building mindset, self believe and positive attitude. Dr. Soumya Mishra, Associate Profesor and HR Area Coordinator, welcomed the guests and Dr. Ashish Mohanty, Associate Professor, proposed the vote of thanks.
