New Delhi, April 7: On the occasion of World Health Day this Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles and take collective action toward creating an obesity-free India. He emphasized the importance of personal fitness as an essential part of the nation’s vision for development—Viksit Bharat.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi shared, "On World Health Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a healthier world. Our Government will keep focusing on healthcare and invest in different aspects of people's well-being. Good health is the foundation of every thriving society!"
In a video message posted on the platform, the Prime Minister echoed the age-old saying, "Health is the ultimate fortune and the ultimate wealth," while expressing concern about India’s growing obesity issue. He pointed out, "You are all aware that our modern lifestyle is becoming a significant threat to our health. A recent report highlights that by 2050, over 44 crore Indians will suffer from obesity. This is alarming. The scale of this crisis is concerning."
PM Modi called for collective responsibility, urging citizens to adopt healthier eating habits and view these changes not only as personal choices but as social duties. "I want to make a pledge with you today—to reduce our cooking oil consumption by 10%. This will be a significant step toward reducing obesity," he suggested.
