Bhubaneswar, May 27: A 31-year-old man was arrested with narcotics in the early hours of Wednesday after a gunfight with police near Arisol village, officials said.

According to police, the accused, identified as Pupun Majhi, was intercepted by a police team around 2:30 am. During the operation, Majhi allegedly opened fire at the officers, injuring two police personnel.

Police retaliated, injuring Majhi in the exchange of fire before taking him into custody.

Officials said 25 grams of brown sugar, a pistol, three live rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle were seized from the accused.

Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh stated that Majhi is linked to at least 20 criminal cases, including dacoity, robbery, illegal arms trade, drug trafficking, and bombing incidents.

“The police action against criminals will continue. Our force will give a befitting reply to criminals who attempt to harm citizens,” the commissioner said.
