Cold wave and dense fog warnings issued for several districts

Winter has tightened its grip across Odisha, with several regions recording plummeting temperatures and a thick blanket of fog. According to the latest Odisha weather update from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, the hill station of G. Udayagiri has emerged as the coldest spot in the state, recording a bone-chilling minimum temperature of 4.6°C.

In the plains, both Rourkela and Phulbani recorded a low of 7.1°C, signaling a harsh winter phase for the residents. While the mercury dropped significantly in the interiors, Paralakhemundi stood at the other end of the spectrum, recording the highest maximum temperature at 30.0°C.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert Odisha for the next three days. Isolated pockets in the marked districts are expected to face a severe chill. Alongside the cold, a dense fog warning is in place for the next 72 hours. Visibility in areas like Rourkela has already dropped below 200 meters, categorized as dense fog, while Bhawanipatna experienced moderate fog with visibility ranging between 200 to 500 meters.

Residents in the capital city are also feeling the nip in the air. Bhubaneswar weather today saw a minimum temperature of 12.4°C, which is nearly 3 degrees below the normal range. Neighboring Cuttack recorded a minimum of 11.4°C.

Fortunately, for those looking for a respite, the weather office predicts no major warnings from Day 4 to Day 7. Until then, dry weather is expected to prevail across all districts, but the combination of cold winds and morning fog will likely impact daily commutes and early morning activities.
