Women Steal Sarees Worth Rs 7 Lakhs from Boyanika Showroom in Odisha's Angul

Bhubaneswar, April 14: A daring daylight robbery at Boyanika showroom in Angul, Odisha, has left local Police baffled, with a group of women making off with sarees worth nearly Rs 7 lakhs. CCTV footage of the theft, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the meticulously coordinated heist.

Reports indicate that the group, which included six women and one man, executed the crime with precision, posing as regular customers. Arriving in a luxury Toyota Innova, they seamlessly blended in with the crowd, drawing no suspicion as they entered the showroom.

While some members of the group engaged the staff by asking to see various saree options, others went about their business unnoticed. In a highly planned move, the women allegedly concealed around 25 pata sarees under their clothes, tucking them into their waist and lower body areas. The act was so smooth that, at the time, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

It wasn’t until a routine stock check later that the staff realized several sarees were missing. Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, it became clear how the group had worked in tandem, creating distractions, forming a human shield, and slipping away without detection.

"The group arrived in a Toyota Innova. Once inside, some of them distracted the staff by requesting sarees in another section, while others formed a human corridor and took the sarees," said Satyabrata Behera, the store in charge.

Following the discovery of the theft, a complaint was filed with Angul Town Police Station, and an investigation was initiated based on the CCTV footage. Authorities are now working to identify the suspects and track their whereabouts. Preliminary reports suggest that the group may have fled toward Sambalpur, but their current location remains unclear.

The incident has raised concerns among local businesses, with many fearing the possibility of similar organized thefts in the future. In response, local Police have urged business owners to ramp up security and surveillance measures to protect their establishments from such crimes.
