Kendrapara, August 3: Panic has gripped the Pattamundai area of Kendrapara district following a suspected crocodile attack on a woman. The incident has once again raised concerns over the increasing threat posed by crocodiles in riverine areas, where several lives have been lost in similar attacks in the past.
According to reports, the incident took place at Damodar Patana village under Alapua Panchayat of Pattamundai block. The victim, identified as Suchitra Das, had gone to the riverbank in the morning for defecation. However, when she failed to return home even after a considerable time, her family members and villagers started searching for her.
During the search, her belongings were found lying near the riverbank, creating suspicion that she might have been dragged into the water by a crocodile.
After being informed, a team of firefighters reached the spot and launched a search operation in the river. Rescue efforts are underway with the help of boats and specialised equipment to trace Suchitra.
The incident has left the villagers in a state of shock and mourning. Suchitra Das, who worked as a cook, was the sole support for her family’s livelihood.
