Fatehgarh, Oct 24: In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly killed her stepdaughter over a mere Rs 20 spent on a ‘Dahivada’.
The incident occurred at Podasahi village in Nayagarh district.
The deceased, identified as Tulasi, was reportedly subjected to daily abuse by her stepmother, Manda Swain.
According to sources, Sukuta Swain married Manda following the death of his first wife. Together, they had a son, while Sukuta had two daughters from his previous marriage. Tensions escalated when Tulasi purchased 'dahivada' for Rs 20 on Tuesday, leading to a violent argument the following morning.
In a fit of rage, Manda allegedly killed Tulasi. Family members of Manda reportedly attempted to cremate the body to cover up the incident, but their efforts were thwarted when police intervened.
The authorities have sent Tulasi's body for a postmortem examination and detained Manda. The investigation into this tragic case is on.
