Bhubaneswar, Feb 22: As the general election approaches, the political climate in the Sundargarh Lok Sabha constituency is heating up.
Rumors abound that the incumbent BJP MP and former Union Minister, Jual Oram, may not have the opportunity to contest the parliamentary election from Sundargarh this time.
Oram has a long history in politics, having been elected from 1998 to 2019, except for the 2009 election when he lost to Congress candidate Hemananda Biswal.
However, there’s an interesting twist this time. The BJP is considering a different strategy: they might field Jual Oram as an MLA candidate, either from Banai or Sundargarh assembly segment. This approach involves swapping candidates between parliamentary and assembly elections, a tactic that worked well for the party in other state elections in 2023.
On the other side of the political spectrum, the ruling BJD (Biju Janata Dal) is expected to nominate hockey star Dillip Tirkey once again. The BJD has been diligently preparing its ground in Sundargarh, a district known for its love of sports. Notably, the BJD government has constructed a world-class hockey stadium there.
Meanwhile, the Congress party is making efforts to regain its stronghold in the region. It remains to be seen how these political maneuvers will play out in the upcoming election
