New Delhi, March 27: In a significant move to strengthen India's unified approach to the ongoing West Asia conflict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday evening initiated a virtual meeting with the Chief Ministers (CMs) of all states, except those in election-bound states, to discuss preparedness and coordinated strategies in response to the ongoing crisis in the region.
The meeting was designed to ensure a collaborative and synchronized effort across states, with the overarching theme being the spirit of 'Team India.' Official sources indicated that the Prime Minister sought to encourage collective action and shared responsibility, focusing on maintaining national security and responding effectively to any impact the conflict may have on India’s economy, security, and diplomatic relations.
This is the first time that PM Modi has convened such a session with the state leaders regarding the rapidly escalating situation in West Asia, underscoring the urgency of the matter. The conflict in the region began on February 28, when a US-Israel military assault on Iran triggered a series of retaliatory strikes. In response, Iran launched attacks on its Gulf neighbors, as well as Israel, exacerbating tensions across the Middle East.
PM Modi stressed the importance of a well-coordinated strategy to mitigate any repercussions of the conflict for India, particularly as the country is home to a significant diaspora in the Middle East, as well as economic interests tied to the region's oil and gas resources.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for close collaboration between the central government and state authorities, urging the states to keep a close watch on any developments that might affect their local populations. He also reassured the CMs that the government was actively monitoring the situation and would continue to take all necessary measures to safeguard Indian citizens and interests abroad.
As the situation in West Asia remains fluid and unpredictable, the meeting aimed to ensure that India stands united in its approach, working together as a cohesive unit to address any challenges the conflict may pose, both on the domestic front and on the global diplomatic stage.
