Wellington, July 9: Exports from Wellington-New Delhi-India would be “tariff free from day one”, said New Zealand PM Christopher Luxon on Thursday.

Ahead of Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to New Zealand, his counterpart Christopher Luxon hailed the proposed India-New Zealand trade deal.

Luxon said the historic deal would deliver a major boost to New Zealand businesses by expanding its deep access to the Indian market.

Highlighting the economic benefits of the agreement, Luxon said 57 per cent of Wellington's exports to New Delhi would be free of tariffs, on the very day it begins.

In a post on X, Luxon said, “New Zealand businesses are set to boom with our India Trade Deal. 57 per cent of everything we export to India will be tariff free from day one.”

The announcement is going to be a boom for India that comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day state visit to New Zealand m begins on July 10.

During his stay in Auckland, Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his Australian counterpart Luxon and review the full spectrum of ties between the two countries.
