PM Modi Oman visit focuses on strengthening strategic partnership with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik

PM arrives in Muscat for strategic economic and trade discussions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down in Muscat on Wednesday, marking the commencement of the final phase of his significant three-nation tour. This visit follows successful diplomatic engagements in Jordan and Ethiopia, setting the stage for high-level discussions in the Gulf region.

This PM Modi Oman visit comes at the specific invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. It is a pivotal moment for bilateral ties, as both nations are currently celebrating the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations. This marks Prime Minister Modi’s second official trip to the Gulf nation, highlighting the priority India places on its relationship with Oman.

Upon his arrival, the focus immediately shifted to the comprehensive agenda planned for the stay. Leaders from both nations are expected to engage in deep discussions aimed at bolstering the Strategic Partnership. Key areas on the table include expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, defense, security, and technology. Furthermore, the Prime Minister is scheduled to address the vibrant Indian community residing in Oman, which includes a significant number of professionals and workers from Odisha, strengthening the cultural bridge between the two regions.

Before arriving in Muscat, PM Modi concluded a historic visit to Ethiopia. In a gesture reflecting deep personal rapport and diplomatic warmth, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali personally drove PM Modi to the airport. This rare honor followed a series of significant events in Addis Ababa, where India and Ethiopia elevated their ties to a 'Strategic Partnership'.

During the Ethiopian leg of the tour, PM Modi became the first global head of state to receive 'The Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia', the country's highest civilian award. He also addressed a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament, emphasizing that India and Ethiopia are "natural partners" in regional peace and development.

Now in Oman, the atmosphere is set for similarly productive engagements. The Ministry of External Affairs has highlighted that this visit will allow both sides to review regional and global issues of mutual interest, further solidifying India's footprint in the Gulf.
