Bhubaneswar, July 31: The body of Bishnu Prasad Chinara, one of the two doctors from Odisha who had gone missing following a series of landslides in Kerala's Wayanad district, has been recovered today.
This was informed by Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari.
Pujari stated that the body is suspected to be that of Bishnu Prasad Chinara. After proper identification and formalities, arrangements will be made to bring the body to Odisha. However, his friend Swadhin Panda is yet to be traced. A team from Odisha is being sent to Kerala, he added.
As per reports, the wives of both doctors are receiving treatment at a hospital after being rescued in critical condition. Their family members have urged the state government to take necessary action to rescue the missing doctors.
It is worth mentioning that Chinara, a resident of the Choudwar Housing Board colony in Cuttack, was on a vacation with his wife Priyadharini Pal, and their friends, Dr. Swadhin Panda and his wife Swikruti Mohapatra, when a devastating landslide occurred on Monday night.
The tragedy has claimed the lives of over 150 people so far and around 180 people are still missing.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased people and Rs 50,000 for the injured people.
