Delhi, May 8: India opened gates of the Reasi' Salam Dam and Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project Dam on the Chenab river on Thursday.
According to reports, three gates of the Reasi's Salal Dam, built on the Chenab River, were opened, while two at the Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project Dam were also opened, to manage excessive water input due to cloudburst in the regions.
HPP officials stated the move was to control the rising water levels caused by heavy rainfall across the region.
The central government recently suspended the Indus-Water Treaty with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 tourists at the Baisaran Valley.
Earlier, the Indian government had opened two gates at the Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project Dam, built on the Chenab River in Ramban.
The gates were reportedly opened to manage the rising water levels caused due to the heavy rainfall in Jammu & Kashmir valleys.
