New Delhi, May 20: Providing an update on India’s ambitious Bullet Train Project, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday announced the completion of 300 kilometres of viaduct.

Taking to his official handle on X, Vaishnaw shared a video showing the construction progress along with the caption, "300 km viaduct completed. -- Bullet Train Project."

The project is being carried out by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).

Around 76% of the digging work has been finished for the Mumbai bullet train station at Bandra Kurla Complex. This is the only underground station on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor.

According to a report, 14.2 lakh cubic metres of digging work has been completed so far. A total of 18.7 lakh cubic metres of earth needs to be dug from this site. Three batching plants, each with a capacity of 120 cubic metres per hour, are currently working at the site.

The batching plants have an ice plant and a chiller plant to help keep the concrete at the right temperature.

There is also a modern concrete lab at the site, which can perform tests like the Water Permeability Test and the Rapid Chloride Penetration Test. All concrete testing is done on-site, and some samples are also sent from time to time to a well-known lab for checking.

The base slab is being built using M-60 grade temperature-controlled concrete. Each base slab needs 3,000 to 4,000 cubic metres of concrete, which must be kept at a controlled temperature. This concrete is prepared on-site using batching plants and chiller plants.

The platform is planned to be built about 26 metres below the ground. The station will have three levels: the platform, concourse, and service floor. To prepare for this, digging is being done up to a depth of around 32 metres (about 100 feet), which is roughly the height of a 10-storey building.

The station will have six platforms, each about 415 meters long—long enough to fit a 16-coach bullet train. It will be connected to both the metro and the road network.

There will be two entry and exit points: one providing access to the nearby Metro Line 2B station, and the other towards the MTNL building.

The station is designed to offer plenty of space for passenger movement and facilities at both the concourse and platform levels. A special skylight has also been included to allow natural light into the station.
