Vishwakarma Puja 2026: 5 things to avoid at workplaces

Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated every year on September 17 to worship Lord Vishwakarma, regarded as the divine architect and craftsman. The festival is especially observed at factories, shops, garages and offices, where machines, tools, vehicles and other work equipment are worshipped.

According to religious beliefs and guidance shared by Acharya Madan Mohan, devotees should follow certain practices on the occasion.

1. Keep the workplace clean:Clean the office, shop, factory or garage before the puja. Machines, tools and vehicles should also be cleaned and decorated.

2. Worship tools and machines:Apply roli or sindoor, make a swastika and offer flowers and akshat. Devotees may chant “Om Vishwakarmane Namah” during the puja.

3. Respect workers:The day is also considered an occasion to honour employees, artisans, mechanics and labourers by offering prasad or gifts.

4. Avoid using machines:As per religious tradition, machines and tools are given rest on Vishwakarma Puja. Avoid operating them after the puja, if possible, and do not step on or mishandle tools.

5. Avoid tamasic food and conflicts:Devotees are advised to avoid meat, fish, eggs and alcohol. Unnecessary arguments with colleagues and workers should also be avoided. Donating food or clothes to the needy is considered auspicious.
