Bhubaneswar, February 8: Odisha Cyber Police have apprehended a man from West Bengal in connection with an online fraud case involving approximately Rs 50 lakh, as confirmed by police officials.

The accused, identified as 46-year-old Arabinda Paul, is a resident of Hooghly district in West Bengal. He is charged with deceiving a Bhubaneswar resident of over Rs 50 lakh through a deceptive online investment scam that promised unusually high returns.

Paul was arrested in his hometown in Baikunthpur, located under Mongra police jurisdiction in Hooghly district. He has been charged under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023, which address offences related to cheating.

According to the ongoing police investigation, the victim was lured into an online investment scheme that offered attractive returns. Paul, along with his associates, allegedly manipulated the victim into transferring substantial sums to various bank accounts under the false pretext of investing in non-existent companies.
