Sambalpur, April 1: In a major crackdown on corruption, Vigilance officials on Tuesday apprehended Bidyut Ranjan Bhol, Deputy Manager of the Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OPHWC), Sambalpur Division, while he was allegedly carrying ₹5 lakh in cash.

Acting on specific inputs regarding collection of bribe money, the Vigilance team intercepted Bhol near Sambalpur Railway Station and recovered the cash from his possession.

Subsequently, simultaneous raids were carried out at multiple locations linked to him, including Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, and Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district.

During the searches, an additional ₹5 lakh was seized from his residence in Bhubaneswar. Further, around 70 notes of ₹500 denomination along with two trunks were recovered from his sister’s house in Chandrasekharpur.

Investigation into the case is currently underway, officials said.
