Mumbai, July 21: Renowned filmmaker Chandra Barot, best known for directing the 1978 cult classic Don, passed away at the age of 86. The news of his demise was confirmed by his wife, Deepa Barot. He had been battling pulmonary fibrosis, a rare lung condition, for the past seven years.
Barot was undergoing treatment at Guru Nanak Hospital under the care of Dr. Manish Shetty, and had previously received medical attention at Jaslok Hospital. Despite making only one major film in his career, Don became a landmark in Hindi cinema and is still celebrated for its gripping storyline and iconic music.
The film's legacy continues, with a third installment of the Don franchise currently in development. Farhan Akhtar, who revived the franchise in the 2000s and is set to direct Don 3, paid tribute to Barot, calling him the creative force behind the original classic. He also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Barot family.
Don, starring Amitabh Bachchan in a dual role, remains one of Bollywood’s most memorable thrillers, and Chandra Barot’s contribution to Indian cinema continues to be remembered and honored.
