Mumbai, Ap 28: The Indian film industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Bharat Kapoor, who passed away at the age of 80 on Monday at Mumbai’s Sion Hospital. Kapoor, who had been unwell for the past three days, succumbed to multiple organ failure around 3:30 pm. His funeral was held the same evening at 6:30 pm, attended by family members and close friends.

Kapoor’s longtime friend and fellow actor Avtar Gill confirmed the news, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of a cherished colleague. “He had been struggling with health issues in recent days. Despite medical efforts, his condition worsened rapidly,” Gill said. A prayer meeting to honor Kapoor’s memory is scheduled for April 30.

Bharat Kapoor was a familiar face in Hindi cinema during the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. Over a career spanning four decades, he played a wide range of roles—from supporting characters to villains—leaving a lasting impression on audiences. He made his acting debut in 1972 and quickly gained recognition for his versatility.

His notable filmography includes Nuri, Ram Balram, Love Story, Bazaar, Ghulam, Aakhri Raasta, Satyamev Jayate, Swarg, Khuda Gawah, Rang, Barsaat, and Sajan Chale Sasural. Kapoor also left his mark on television, appearing in popular serials such as Campus, Parampara, Rahat, Saans, Amanat, Bhagyavidhaata, and the cult favorite Kahani Chandrakanta Ki.

Though he stepped away from acting after 2011, Kapoor remained fondly remembered by fans and colleagues alike. Tributes have poured in across social media, with many recalling his dedication, warmth, and immense talent.

Bharat Kapoor’s journey from the 1970s to the early 2000s reflects the evolution of Bollywood itself. His contribution to both film and television ensures that his legacy will endure, remembered through the memorable characters he brought to life.
