US Military Launches Retaliatory Airstrikes on Iran Over Strait of Hormuz Shipping Attacks

Washington launches fresh military operations targeting Iranian coastal defences.

US Central Command has launched a renewed wave of airstrikes against Iranian military installations, directly responding to recent aggression towards commercial shipping vessels navigating in the Strait of Hormuz.

Washington's latest military response aims to neutralize Tehran’s capacity to disrupt international maritime trade routes. According to CENTCOM, American forces deployed precision munitions to eliminate coastal defense mechanisms. These strategic strikes targeted air defense systems, command-and-control networks, radar sites, and dozens of attack boats operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Historically, the Strait of Hormuz remains a highly critical global chokepoint, handling nearly a fifth of the world's daily oil consumption, making its security essential for economic stability.

Iranian Cities Experience Blackouts Following Explosions

Following these coordinated bombardments, several key Iranian coastal cities suffered severe infrastructure disruptions. Local state media sources confirmed widespread power outages crippling the southern port city of Chabahar. Residents reported hearing multiple powerful explosions echoing through Chabahar and the neighboring coastal town of Konarak.

Further blasts rattled Bushehr, a fortified province housing an active nuclear power plant, though exact structural damage remains unverified. Additional detonations were recorded on Abu Musa Island and near Sirik, indicating a wide operational theater stretching across Iran's southern coastline.

Retaliation for Hostility toward Commercial Fleets

CENTCOM officials described their military action as a direct consequence of Tehran's recent attacks on three commercial tankers navigating the strategic waterway. Iranian forces allegedly targeted vessels including the Marshall Islands-flagged M/T Al Rekayyat, the Saudi-flagged M/T Wedyan, and the Liberian-flagged M/T Cyprus Prosperity.

American military commanders strongly condemned these hostile actions as dangerous violations of maritime freedom. By holding Tehran accountable through decisive force, Washington insists it will continue protecting civilian maritime crews and ensuring safe passage for international commerce. US forces remain fully postured and prepared to execute further retaliatory operations today.
