Mumbai, Sept 18: Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan has announced that he will portray Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the upcoming biopic titled Maa Vande. Directed by Kranthi Kumar CH, the film marks a significant career milestone for Mukundan, who shared the news on Wednesday, coinciding with the PM's 75th birthday.
In an Instagram post, Mukundan expressed his excitement and humility about playing the role of the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. He shared his personal connection to Modi, having grown up in Ahmedabad where Modi served as the Chief Minister during his childhood. Mukundan also recalled meeting the PM in April 2023, an encounter that left a lasting impact on him.
Mukundan said, “His political journey has been extraordinary, but this film will explore the man beyond the statesman, especially his deep bond with his mother, who shaped his character.” He added that stepping into Modi’s role was both overwhelming and inspiring, as it offers an opportunity to delve into the personal side of the leader’s life.
The actor also shared a memorable moment from his interaction with Modi, quoting two powerful words the PM spoke to him in Gujarati: “Jhookvanu Nahi,” meaning "Never Bow Down." Mukundan said these words have been a source of strength for him in overcoming life’s challenges.
The biopic Maa Vande will be a pan-Indian release, available in major Indian languages, and will also be distributed internationally. The film is produced by Veer Reddy M.
