Bhubaneswar, Oct 8: At least 28 unclaimed bodies of the Bahanaga train tragedy victims, preserved in the AIIMS Hospital Bhubaneswar, will be legally disposed of soon.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued an SOP on Sunday regarding the disposal of the 28 unidentified bodies recovered from the triple–train spot at Bahanaga in Odisha’s Balasore district.
BMC Mayor Sulochona Das on Sunday said that the civic body is almost set to dispose of the unclaimed bodies. The BMC has officially informed the authorities of the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar in this connection.
“However, we wait for the legal procedures to be complied with by the AIIMS authorities and hand over of the bodies to us in the presence of CBI officials”, Das added.
Das further said that the unclaimed bodies would be cremated at Satyanagar and Bharatpur crematoriums. The BMC has decided to provide two to three dead body carriers for the smooth transportation of bodies from AIIMS to the cremation ground. The entire process from receiving the bodies to cremation will be video-recorded for future reference.
Worth mentioning, the tragic triple-train accident on June 2 had claimed 290 lives.
