Bhadrak, June 23: In a major crackdown on illegal narcotics, Bhadrak police on Monday arrested two women allegedly involved in the brown sugar trade. The arrests were made during a routine vehicle check conducted by the Puruna Bazar Police.
According to police sources, the duo was apprehended while transporting brown sugar in a car. Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted a suspicious vehicle during a routine check. When the driver attempted to flee, the police managed to stop the car and took all three occupants — two women and the driver — into custody.
Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered approximately 16 grams of brown sugar concealed in a polythene bag. Preliminary investigations suggest that the two women were the primary operatives in the illicit trade.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ajwari Bibi and Sanjida Bibi, both residents of the Begunia area under Khandagiri Police Station in Bhubaneswar. The driver has been identified as S.K. Naruddin from Jadupur, also under the jurisdiction of Khandagiri Police Station.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway to trace the network involved in the illegal drug trafficking operation.
