Bhubaneswar, November 19: Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Wednesday announced a comprehensive tehsil and RI circle restructuring plan in order to make the revenue services more efficient, accessible, and citizen-centric in the State.

“Following the Census in 2027, a thorough evaluation of tehsils will be done across the State. Tehsil size, population, and administrative load, service delivery frequency will be taken into consideration during the drive. Accordingly, big tehsils will be divided to smaller ones to enhance governance, service delivery, administrative efficiency and revenue officials more accountable,” said Pujari.

Meanwhile, State Government has issued notifications to divide Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Sambalpur tehsils. This is the first phase of restructuring of the tehsil system in the State.

The Minister also emphasised on creation of smaller Revenue Inspector (RI) Circles and said each Gram panchayat will have one RI circle.

“In the first phase, we have planned to ensure that each RI Circle cover only two Gram Panchayats. Later, each gram panchayat will have an RI circle,” said Pujari.

Currently, each RI Circle covers three-four Gram Panchayats, resulting in heavy workload and slower service delivery.
