Durg/Bilaspur, August 2: Two Catholic nuns from Kerala, Preethy Mary and Vandana Francis, along with a co-accused, were released from Durg Central Jail in Chhattisgarh on Saturday following a court order granting them bail in a case involving alleged human trafficking and forced religious conversion.
The court observed that the case appeared to be based on "mere suspicion" and highlighted that the parents of the alleged victims had not supported the claims of coercion or inducement to convert to Christianity.
Their release drew a crowd of supporters outside the jail, including several political leaders from Kerala. Members of Parliament from the Left Democratic Front (LDF), and Congress leader and former Durg MLA Arun Vora were among those present to welcome the nuns.
