Two dead after electrocution in Balasore farmland

Balasore, July 18: In a tragic incident near Mahishapanda village under Simulia Police Station limits in Balasore district, two people died after coming in contact with a live electric wire laid in a farmland.

The deceased have been identified as local farmer Babuli Das and elderly woman Parbati Munda, who lost her life while attempting to rescue him. The wire had reportedly been installed by Babuli Das around his paddy field to protect the seedlings from stray cattle.

According to reports, Babuli had fenced his farmland with an iron wire and net and connected the fencing to an electric supply as a precautionary measure. However, on the following morning, he entered the field without disconnecting the power connection and accidentally came in contact with the live wire. He was immediately electrocuted and began struggling for his life.

Hearing the commotion and seeing Babuli trapped in the field, Parbati Munda rushed to help him. In an attempt to save him, she also came into contact with the electrified wire and suffered a fatal shock.

Both Babuli and Parbati died on the spot. Local residents later disconnected the power supply and informed the fire department and emergency services. Fire personnel from Ada Fire Station reached the location and recovered the bodies from the field.

The bodies were subsequently sent to Simulia Community Health Centre through a 108 ambulance for further procedures. Police have started an investigation into the incident.
