Bhubaneswar, August 23: The Commissionerate Police has arrested two individuals involved in the fatal hit-and-run incident in Patrapada, where a mother and daughter lost their lives after being struck by speeding vehicles. The accused, identified as Soham Raj Tripathy, a private bank manager, and Rohan Ranjan Raut, son of a liquor trader from Patia, were apprehended from Delhi after a prolonged search.
The tragic incident occurred on Rakhi Purnima, when a Thar and a Scorpio, reportedly racing, ran over a family returning home. The young daughter died on the spot, while the mother and son were critically injured. The woman later succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Following the incident on August 9, the accused fled to Manali and later took shelter in Delhi. Meanwhile, Khandagiri Police seized the Thar involved, which was traced to the Kusumati area of Jatni. The Scorpio was also recovered from the Jatni area.
Outraged over the incident, residents of Phuleswari Basti blocked the National Highway near Patrapada in protest. The road blockade was lifted after police intervention. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify others possibly involved.
