Two arrested in Cuttack for extorting money in the name of Dhal Samanta brothers

Cuttack, Nov 5: Police have arrested two persons including a tuition teacher for their alleged involvement in extortion activities, exploiting the names of gangster siblings Sushant and Sushil Dhal Samanta.

The accused have been identified as as Mantu, also known as Kamalakant Barik, and Babu, alias Dilip Kumar Das, who is a tuition teacher. Mantu hails from Jagatsinghpur, while Babu is a native of Dhenkanal.

According to reports, the Chauliaganj police seized Rs 91,000 in cash, two motorcycles, one of which was stolen, and five mobile phones from the two accused. The accused had been involved in extortion activities for a considerable period, with their primary targets being businessmen in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Dhenkanal, as stated by Cuttack Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anil Mishra during a press conference.

Mishra further explained that a complaint had been lodged against unidentified individuals on October 23, alleging that the accused had demanded protection money amounting to Rs 5 lakh from a businessman at Chatra Bazaar

Earlier, in a similar modus operandi, the two suspects had extorted Rs 1 lakh from an individual in Dhenkanal, DCP Mishra disclosed. A preliminary investigation indicated that the accused had no direct affiliation with the D-Brothers but had used their name to intimidate their targets.
